Step-by-step

Add Dropbox functionality to Gmail

-

1 Go to Marketplace

In Safari, go to google.com and sign in to your Gmail account. Then click on the grid icon in the top-right corner, scroll down and click on the ‘More from G Suite Marketplace’ option.

2 Install the extension

Type ‘Dropbox’ into the search field at the top of the screen and then click on the ‘Dropbox for Gmail’ extension. Next, click on the ‘Install’ button.

3 Relaunch Gmail

Now close the web page displaying your Gmail (or quit Safari altogether) and relaunch it. As a large blue box will attest, Dropbox will have been added to your sidebar.

4 Open the extension

Click on the Dropbox extension in the sidebar and then click on an email. You will now need to sign in to your Dropbox account or create an account if you don’t have one.

5 View attachments

When the Dropbox add-on is up and running, select an email thread and any attachments within the conversation will be displayed in the sidebar.

6 Send to Dropbox

Click on an attachment and you will be able to upload it to your Dropbox, which can be handy as it allows you to then access it instantly from any device.

7 Attach from Dropbox

When you are composing new emails you will see that the Dropbox icon has been added to the toolbar at the base of the email. Click on it to explore another useful feature…

8 Select attachment

A pop-up window will take you straight to your Dropbox. From here you can select a file to attach to your email, even files that exceed the usual Gmail size of 25MB.

9 Open the link

The way it works is that a link to the large files will be added to the outgoing email. When the recipient receives the email, they will be able to click on the link to obtain the files.
