Using a third-party AU plugin
1 Dry vocals
To demo our AU plugin, we have a project with one vocal track selected. Vocal Doubler works best on a dry signal too, so we’ve removed any chorus or delays etc for now.
4 Open Settings
The plugin opens and shows its settings window. Vocal Doubler is a nice simple example of an AU that applies a superb chorus or harmonised doubling effect to a vocal track.
2 Stack click
With our track selected we show Smart Controls (B). Find the plugins area in the inspector and mouse underneath to show a highlight that we’ll click to select our Audio Unit.
5 Parameter play
Vocal Doubler has an intuitive puck control for tweaking separation and variation (%) which translate as the distance between the doubled vocal and its difference in sound.
3 Plugin select
Hover down to the very bottom of the menu to the ‘Audio Units’ item. If you have Vocal Doubler installed, it will show here within the izotope category so click to add.
6 Custom preset
The ‘Amount’ dial bottom-right corner varies the effect level. Get these all set and you can save the settings as a custom preset via the dropdown menu at the window top.
