Apple memorably saw in the new millennium in style with its multicoloured range of imacs, Bondai blue G3s and a dynamic lineup of ‘Clamshell’ ibooks. But a more conservative palette was applied to the next generation of computers, which included the desirable ‘Snow’ ibooks. With the introduction of the G4 ibooks in late 2003, Apple finally completed the phasing out of the G3 processors that had been in use since 1997. As well as a new Powerpc G4 chip, the ibook G4 ‘Snow’ also replaced the disc tray with a slot-loading optical drive. However, display issues that had plagued the ibook line in the past returned to haunt the early G4 models, resulting in visible graphical artefacts appearing on the screen or complete system lockups. These faults were addressed in later models, thankfully.
