68 PROTIPS IOS & Mac

A compilation of tricks and hacks to help you become a black belt in using your Mac and IOS devices

-

Apple prides itself on producing intuitive devices that anybody can pick up and use, young or old. The Mac has always been far more user-friendly than a Windows PC, and the touchscreen of Apple’s iphone and ipad devices has become synonymous with speed and efficiency. But not all of the best features are on display at the top of the interface – sometimes you have to do a little digging around to uncover some of the cooler nuances, which brings us to the purpose of this feature.

Over the following pages, we showcase some of the best ‘pro’ features of IOS and macos that can enhance your productivity and help you tailor your device to better meet your needs. And although many of the tips we provide can be used on any device, new or old, some require the latest version of a specific operating system (in this case IOS 14 and macos Big Sur), so make sure you update your device accordingly to get the most benefit.

01 Turn off your iphone

Powering-down your device used to be as easy as holding the side button. But with iphone 11 and 12 models, this method just triggers Siri. With those models, hold the volume down and side buttons together for a few seconds to display the power off screen, then swipe the slider.

02 Record video quickly

Moments can be lost in the time it takes to open the Camera app and swipe to video mode, but there is a way to speed up the process. As soon as you launch the app, press and hold the shutter button to instantly start filming and release it to stop.

03 More cam controls

When using the Camera app, you can swipe up on the shooting modes row (or swipe left if you are holding your device in Landscape) to access a new set of controls. These vary depending on the shooting mode you are in but can include night mode, filters, etc.
