Restore from Time Machine

When running macos from an external drive, none of your third-party apps will be present (as they’re on your Mac’s internal HD). However, you can connect your Time Machine backup drive to your Mac and then restore your ‘new’ external HD Mac from that to get everything back in place. As always, back up before trying all this!
