Performance tweaks for Safari browsing
1 New blank pages
Open Safari and in Preferences>general set Safari to open with a new window. Set new windows and tabs to open with an empty page for maximum startup speed.
2 Use Reader view
Strip out unnecessary adverts, sidebars and menus for speed. Select ‘Websites’ at the top, ‘Reader’ on the left and set to On at the bottom. Set any exceptions if necessary.
3 Use content blocking
Block unwanted content to speed up the web. Select ‘Content Blockers’ on the left and set to On in the bottom-right corner. Configure exceptions to this in the list above.
4 Stop media playing
It’s annoying when video or audio plays, and it also slows down web pages. Select ‘Auto-play’ and set to ‘Never Auto-play’ at the bottom. Only allow it on sites you want.
5 Block popup windows
Select ‘Pop-up Windows’ and set it to Block. It is rare that sites need pop-ups, but configure them as exceptions in the list above if necessary. It makes the web faster.
6 Avoid plugins
Plugins require memory and processing power, and too many can suck the life out of the web. Select the Extensions tab and remove/disable plugins you can live without.
