The one-stop shop
It can pay to invest in one solution that has the potential to do almost everything you need when writing a novel. From the actual writing in a focused way to researching specific information to creating your characters all the way through to building and formatting an ebook, Scrivener can do it all and without the need for a subscription.
1 One creation space
To make the most out of Scrivener you will need to purchase a licence. It is not cheap, but it is worthwhile and you do get a free 30-day trial.
4 Understand the Binder
We recommend reading through the default template so you understand all the features. The Binder is used to bring all your project parts together in one space.
2 Back up first
The first setting you should look at is Backup in Preferences. Choose a folder and everything you create will be safeguarded. This is crucial for securing all of your work.
5 Do your research
You can add web pages through pasted links, templates and existing files to your novel within the ‘Research’ section of the Binder. Multiple sub-folders can be created.
3 Choose a template
Scrivener can be used to create scripts, short stories, screenplays and so much more. Go to File>new Project and select Fiction> Novel for this particular task.
6 Graphics are included
To emphasise the completeness of Scrivener you can even import your book cover to the ‘Front Matter’ section. Every area of novel creation is built in.
