How can I stop that pesky thumbnail from appearing every time I take a screenshot on my Mac? 1 Open the utility

As long as you are running macos 10.14 (Mojave) or later, press cmd+shift+5 to bring up the screen capture utility. You will see a thin strip of options at the bottom of the screen that all relate to capturing.

2 Access options

Click on ‘Options’ and a menu will be displayed showing actions relating to the capture mode that you are currently in, and also some more general options. You will see ‘Show Floating Thumbnail’ is ticked.

3 De-select

Click on this option to disable it and remove the floating thumbnail. These thumbnails can be useful in certain circumstances as you can click on them to instantly enter Markup mode.
