macos System Preferences
How do I prevent my imac display from turning off and me having to log back in every five minutes?
This is how your Mac saves energy when not in use although, by default, the time needed to elapse before this kicks in can be irritatingly low if you haven’t actually left your desk. Here we’ll show you how to extend this time and ensure you don’t have to sign back in each time.
1 Open System Preferences
Go to System Preferences>energy Saver and then adjust the ‘Turn display off after:’ meter by dragging the marker to the preferred amount of time, such as 30 minutes.
2 Adjust Screen Saver
While in System Preferences, click on ‘Desktop & Screen Saver’, select the ‘Screen Saver’ tab and change the start time to whatever you feel is appropriate for your needs.
3 Change security
Now go to System Preferences>security & Privacy>general and click on the padlock icon in the lower-left corner of the window and then enter your administrator password.
4 Adjust the time
You can now change the ‘Require password’ option to a longer amount of time so that you won’t have to login to macos again when the energy saver kicks in.
