DESIGNED TO BRING PRO-QUALITY SOUND TO PODCASTERS and other discerning content creators at a more accessible price, Autio-technica’s AT2040 Hypercardioid Dynamic Podcast Microphone features a highly directional, precision-made hypercardioid pickup that stays focussed on your voice and helps to minimise unwanted room noise. This ensures professional-quality broadcasts, even from less-than-ideal locations. To further reduce unwanted noise, the mic also features a specially-designed, integrated shock mount that dampens bashes and vibrations transmitted through the mic stand, boom or mount.

The AT2040’S multistage windscreen combines a nonwoven filter with foam mesh to provide superior internal pop filtering, allowing close-up use with exceptional clarity and without any of those annoying pops. For the best combination of sound quality, robust operation and versatility, the AT2040

has an XLR output that connects to a conventional analogue microphone input, providing easy pairing with everything from multi-input home studio computer interfaces to professional mixing consoles. As such, the AT2040 isn’t ready to use with your Mac or IOS devices straight from the box – you will need to purchase an XLR to USB or Lightning cable to make
the necessary connection. Also please be aware that this mic isn’t self-standing – it needs to be connected to a stand, boom or other type of mount and, weighing 615g, it doesn’t exactly offer slip-in-thepocket portability. This is a serious mic for professional set ups.
The AT2040 provides a frequency response of 80-16,000 Hz and an impedance of 600 ohms, producing professional, broadcast-quality sound for all types of media content. The mic is nicely rounded off with a rugged, all-metal construction and sonic signature that has been built upon Audio-technica’s six decades in the audio trade.
Included with the AT2040 is a pivoting stand mount 5/8”-27 to 3/8”-16 threaded adapter and a soft, protective pouch to keep the microphone in when not in use – which probably won’t be very often.
One-two, one-two…
The sound quality that you can broadcast with the AT2040 is incredible. No matter what environment you are recording in, it always seems to stay trained on the subject while reducing all unwanted background sounds. Of course, there are quick and easy, plug-in-and-record mics available for the more casual content creators. But if you really want to take the quality of your broadcasts to the next level, then the AT2040 is a cost-effective option. Just make sure to factor in the additional kit that you may need, such as cables and stands. This would definitely make a sound addition to any semiprofessional studio setup, though.
