10 ways your Apple Watch can replace your iphone

The Apple Watch is fast becoming an adequate replacement for the iphone, here’s how…

-

The Apple Watch was not designed to replace the iphone, and to this day there is no signal to suggest that Apple wants it to perform this function. However, as time passes and third-party app developers make ever more ingenious solutions, we are fast reaching the stage where an Apple Watch can perform the majority of functions that you would normally undertake on your iphone, and it is getting more sophisticated every day. A 4G enabled Apple Watch will help a huge amount when using many of the more sophisticated solutions, away from home, and with so many services now available it may be time for you to consider a connected Apple Watch, rather than one that truly needs the iphone in daily use. Our list of iphone-like functions may well surprise you.

1 Waking up

The Apple Watch will wake you up when you have set an alarm, whether it is a one-off or a repeating event. You can either set one directly on the Apple Watch, or on your iphone, at which point the watch will alert you slightly before the iphone alarm audibly sounds. This will make sure you always wake up on time.

2 Check your schedule

You can now check your schedule for the day ahead in the Reminders app, or a third-party offering. The ability to complete tasks is available on the watch itself, and you can also add new events as you are alerted to the need for them. It adds great efficiency to your day.

3 The morning news

The Radioplayer app is designed to work on the iphone and also wirelessly on the Apple Watch. You can set up your favourite stations so all you need to do is pop in your Airpods, open the app and listen to the morning news in real time. Although, be aware of your battery life.

4 Choose your music

Apple Music is perfectly placed to let you decide what songs you want to listen to on your commute, or when doing other things. You can download tracks to the Watch if you have no 4G connection, and the Airpods audio performance is just as good as through the iphone.

5 Keep in touch

Messages work brilliantly on the Apple Watch and you have access to all of the important features from the iphone setup. The fact that the text input has been tweaked over time and that voice recognition is now extremely accurate means you can keep in touch every day.

6 Move around

Apple Maps is built into watchos, and the ingenious way in which you are alerted to junctions, etc means that it can get you anywhere without a phone. There is a learning curve to ascend, but once you have done that, the system works much better than you may expect.

7 Do it all

You are likely thinking that not everything is possible on an Apple Watch, and this is kind of true, but even email isn’t out of reach. The excellent data input means that you can deal with emails as they come in, and keep up with the business tasks you need to manage.

8 Stay social

Watchchat brings a realistic and feature-laden Whatsapp experience to any Apple Watch, which is otherwise unavailable. You can also manage your Linkedin, Facebook and Instagram feeds from your watch through third-party apps. Every box is ticked through apps.

9 Capture your thoughts

The simple voice record feature lets you capture ideas and audible notes at any time, which means you can, in effect, live with just your Apple Watch. You can also use your voice to create text notes, reminders and almost anything else that is required when out and about.

10 Control your home

With some apps you can even control your smart home devices via the Apple Watch. When you consider that you can also control your Apple TV, or even your smart TV, from your watch it truly starts to come home just how versatile the Apple Watch can be.
