Get your health data together
1 Exercise will work
For some devices, your exercise’s minutes will be displayed in the Activity app and also within Apple Health. You need to enable this in the first setup.
2 A third party
For Garmin, your exercise will be counted, but not your calories and thus your Move ring will not be progressed. Download Strava and connect your Garmin account.
3 Enable the tracking
The idea is to sync Garmin to Strava, and then Strava to Apple Health, which should offer the end result of your workouts filling your exercise rings without an Apple Watch.
4 Check your settings
Check in the Garmin Connect app that Strava is listed as a connected app. Be careful not to have too many connections active to avoid duplicated fitness data.
5 View your activity
You will be able to view your activities in Strava, which offers a similar view to what’s in the Apple Activity app. It is a duplication, but you need both apps to merge data.
6 Check the data
First, check the numbers from each activity and then view them in Apple Health to make sure that they match. You should see complete parity between the two.
7 Even more data
A third set of data will be stored within Garmin Connect and it can be confusing. The trick is to let Strava do its work and to only view one source to track your progress.
8 Keep things calm
It is all too easy to download multiple health apps and to try many different trackers, but this will take time away from improving your fitness. Stick to the basics and exercise.
