Take control of location information
1 View privacy settings
Open Settings on the iphone, and tap ‘Privacy’. You can see that Location Services are set to On, but that doesn’t mean websites can definitely see your location.
2 Location master switch
Tap ‘Location Services’ for the Location Services master switch. This determines if the iphone calculates its location. It does not mean websites can access it.
3 Safari location settings
Tap ‘Safari’ in the apps list. If Location Services is on, select ‘Never’ to block all websites from seeing your location. Tap ‘Ask Next Time’ to allow individual site settings.
4 Site location options
Visit a website that uses location information and a pop-up map shows what info the site can see. Tap ‘Don’t Allow’ to stop it from seeing your current location.
5 Choose fuzzy locations
Not all websites need to know your exact location. Tap ‘Precise’ and turn it off so that the website can only see your rough location. This is good enough for many sites.
6 Allow site access
Choose ‘Allow Once’, and there are ‘Don’t Allow’ and ‘Allow’ options. If you allow the site access, it only knows your approximate location, not your exact one.
7 Website settings
You might assume the ‘aa’ button is for adjusting the text size, but it does more than this, providing access to a useful menu. Press aa>website Settings.
8 Custom site settings
These settings apply only to this website. Among the items are some useful privacy features, like Camera, Microphone and Location options. Press ‘Location’.
9 Site location settings
For these location options to work, Location Services must be turned on, and Safari not set to ‘Deny’. Choose whether to allow or deny this site access to location.
