Get your highlights in order
1 Download and sign up
When you download the Readwise app, you will need to sign up. ‘Sign up with Apple’ is available and you also get a 30 day free trial to ensure it works as you need it to.
4 Other people’s highlights
You will be given the option to input your favourite books and to then view the most popular highlights of others. This is a useful way to quickly build your library.
7 Manage your profile
You can change how the app presents the highlights at any time in the ‘Profile’ screen. This gives you the opportunity to make the service work for your needs.
2 Choose your services
The first screen offers a list of popular services that you can sync highlights from. Tap ‘Sync’ next to each one you want to use. You will need to sign into each one.
5 The Daily Review
The Daily Review screen is designed to keep you motivated to read your highlights and give you an overview. You need to view the highlights to increase your personal stats.
3 The initial sync
The first sync could take a long time if you have a lot of highlights to bring over. Subsequent synchronisations, however, will be much quicker and will feel seamless in use.
6 In the detail
Each highlight is displayed with a thumbnail of the book it is from and a selection of options for you to catalogue and share with others. It is minimally presented.
8 Build a habit
Some gamification is built in to Readwise because you get to check your stats. This ensures that you are regularly reviewing and organising your highlights. It becomes habitual over time.
