Step-by-step
Add animated lens effects
1 Add assets
Choose File>new>event. Label it ‘Lens’. Import our three supplied clips into the Event. Drag the Dslr_source clip into the timeline. Press cmd+5 for the Effects browser.
2 Add effect
Click on Stylize in the Effects browser. Drag the SLR effect onto the clip in the timeline. An SLR panel with editable properties appears in the Video inspector.
3 Add keyframe
Drag the Playhead to 2:11 just as the photographer zooms out. In the Inspector’s SLR panel click the Defocus attribute’s diamond-shaped ‘Add a keyframe’ icon.
4 Add second keyframe
Scrub the Playhead to 2:21. Drag the Defocus slider to 0 to make the dogs become sharply focused. A second keyframe is set automatically. Now the lens changes focus.
5 Take a snap
Scrub to 5:20. Click Take Picture’s Add a keyframe icon. Scrub to 6:00. Slide ‘Take Picture’ to 100 to close the aperture. A new keyframe is created automatically.
6 Animate aperture
Scrub forward to 6:09. Set the ‘Take Picture’ slider to 0 to open the aperture. Play the sequence. The camera now pulls focus and then the aperture is triggered.
7 CCTV style
Drag Cctv_source into the timeline. Go to ‘Nostalgia’ in the Effect browser and drag the Security effect on to the clip. A Security panel appears in the Video Browser.
8 Adjust properties
Drag the Amount slider to 75 to add lens distortion. Change the date, time and text to suit your story. Experiment with other sliders to fine-tune the look of your CCTV feed.
9 Night Vision
Add Binocular_source to the timeline and drag the Looks category’s Night Vision effect onto it. For a more hi-tech look set the Overlays attribute to ‘Overlay 2’.
