Using the new emojis
1 Update your Mac
To utilise the new emojis you need to update your Mac to macos Mojave 10.14.1. Go to System Preferences>system Update and then click to install the new software.
2 View new emojis
Once the update has installed press the ‘Ctrl+cmd+spacebar’ shortcut to bring up the Emoji & Symbols view. Alternatively, click ‘Edit’>‘emoji & Symbols’.
3 Simple viewer
The default emoji character viewer is small enough to sit at the side of your desktop. Cycle through categories using the row of icons at the bottom.
4 Expand viewer
Click on the icon in the top-right corner of the emoji view to expand the window and display the categories in the left sidebar with full character previews to the right.
5 Choosing characters
The update brings many new variants on existing emojis and plenty of new ones. For example, click on a human character and you will be able to choose various shades of hair.
6 Typing characters
Double-click on a character to add it to your text. You can then tweak the size via the respective app’s existing formatting options. There are many new options to explore.
