Organise your Mac without organising
1 Folders everywhere
When you have a stack of folders it does lead to a sense of being organised, but you can’t actually see anything within them unless you click into each one individually.
2 One BIG folder
To start this experiment, try moving as many files as possible into the Documents folder and leaving them there. You will notice no initial difference to how your Mac works.
3 Time for Spotlight
Launch Spotlight using Cmd+spacebar and then type in any phrase you like. You will see files display in the list on the left, and you can simply click one to view it.
4 Limit the results
Go to System Preferences>spotlight and remove any categories that you do not need to view in Spotlight results. Think carefully about the selections you make here.
5 Make it quick
In System Preferences>keyboard> Shortcuts>spotlight you can amend the Spotlight keyboard shortcut. Cmd+spacebar does work well though…
6 Remember Privacy
Click the ‘Privacy’ tab in the Spotlight settings and read the panel. You can then add locations that you do not want Spotlight to search within to tighten up the privacy.
