Discover the hidden weather widget

-

Open Settings app

For the weather widget to work on the lock screen the Weather app must be able to keep a constant eye on your location. To enable this, open the Settings app and tap ‘Privacy’.

Open Location Services

Check the status of the Location Services function. If it’s turned off, then you’ll need to activate it. Do this by tapping ‘Location Services’ and moving the slider to “On”.

Find Weather app

Once Location Services is turned on you’ll see a long list of apps that make use of the function. Scroll right down to the bottom of the screen and tap the entry for ‘Weather’.

Select access

There are three options for each app: Never, While Using the App and Always. The widget will only work if you tap ‘Always’. So go ahead and do this, then tap ‘Back’ when done.

Open Do Not Disturb

Now within the Settings app, you will need to find the option marked Do Not Disturb, which is located on the main Settings screen. Tap it and ensure it is then turned on.

Turn on Scheduled

The weather widget will show on the lock screen when you wake your device following the end of a Do Not Disturb period. Set a period of time by sliding Scheduled to ‘On’.

Schedule the time

Tap the times that appear on the screen and use the carousel at the bottom of the screen to set the start and end times of your Do Not Disturb period. Tap ‘Back’ when done.

Activate Bedtime

Move the slider next to Bedtime. This is important: if you don’t activate this function, the weather widget will not show on the lock screen once the time you’ve set is up.

Lock your phone

Tap the power button on the device to lock the screen. When you tap it you’ll see Do Not Disturb is on. Tapping after Do Not Disturb ends will show you the weather widget.
