Use categories to view data in unique ways
Add a category
Select a table by clicking a cell, then click ‘Add Category’. A list of possible categories appears. Select one to apply it to the table and see your data in a different way.
Expand/collapse
Information in tables is organised by category and subcategory. Expand a category by clicking the arrow on the left to show all the data, or collapse it to see only the category headings.
Knowledge base Experiment with smart categories
Smart categories are not useful for every type of table – it depends on the data. It works brilliantly for some things and not at all for others. Try it and see. Select a category and see if it helps you to understand a table. If it doesn’t, press Cmd+z to undo the change, then try a different column for the category.
Category inspector
Click the ‘Organise’ button at the right side of the toolbar to open the Inspector panel below. Select the ‘Categories’ tab to turn categories on or off or to customise the way data is displayed.
Add subcategories
It depends on the data, but sometimes adding subcategories provides extra views. Click ‘Add a Category’ and select a column. Click and drag categories up or down to change the table view.
