If you are serious about writing, then Bear is a minimalist scribing app that presents a clean and clutter-free environment for channelling your creativity. Recent updates have swelled its functionality too, with support for Apple Watch and ipad Pro (including the option to use your Apple Pencil 2), to help ensure that you can keep writing regardless of where you are or what device you have to hand.

The free version provides an exceptional array of text-formatting tools and a neat interface that keeps all of your work meticulously organised, but it is only if you upgrade to the Pro version (for an annual fee of £13.99/$15.99) that the best features are unlocked, such as seamless syncing across Mac and IOS, themes to inspire and advanced export options to PDF, HTML, DOCX and JPG. Ultimately, however, it is the way that the app is presented that makes it such a pleasing environment for creating new documents, along with the flexibility it provides for adding images and files to each individual piece of work. Organisation has been driven down to the simplest form possible with the ability to group notes by subject, and a simple bar running down the side of the interface provides easy access to everything you’ve written.

We found Bear to be an exceptional experience that really does create a beautiful platform to write within, and the fact that all of your organisation is done for you will leave you free to concentrate on what really matters – the words. Despite the cost, serious writers will definitely find value here.

A wonderfully subtle writing app offering many features and much flexibility. Perfect for those who write every day and crave simple organisation.
