Re­mem­ber, click­ing on the ‘Help’ menu is a great way to dis­cover more about your Mac, as they don’t come with a phys­i­cal man­ual to guide you.

Gen­eral Pref­er­ences

Go to the Gen­eral sec­tion of Sys­tem Pref­er­ences. At the top are sev­eral cus­tomi­sa­tion op­tions that en­able you to change the colour scheme and vis­i­bil­ity of the menu bar.

Add op­tions

You can add ex­tra func­tion­al­ity to your menu bar by go­ing to Sys­tem Pref­er­ences and then tick­ing the op­tion to ‘show’ from cat­e­gories such as Sound, In­ter­net, Blue­tooth and Key­board.

Se­cret op­tions

Alt+click ev­ery­thing! There are se­cret and hid­den op­tions that can be re­vealed by hold­ing down the ‘Alt’ key and click­ing on the menu bar icons. This is the ex­panded Blue­tooth menu.

Knowl­edge base Ex­pand menu bar

There are some re­ally use­ful tools in the Mac App Store that add more fea­tures to your menu bar. Just open the App Store and type ‘menu bar’ into the Search field to find them. There are menu bar items that en­able you to se­lect screen res­o­lu­tions and mon­i­tors, show in­ter­net usage and up­load/ down­load speeds, con­trol itunes and much more.
