A brave approach has led to a stunning kitchen
HOW JESSICA DID IT
‘The old kitchen wasn’t our style and we needed more space. Extending to create a big, eat-in family kitchen was the obvious answer. We worked with Evey at Hands-on Design (handsondesign.com) to decide our wish list and what we could afford. We wanted a modern design, but one with a bit of drama. When Evey suggested a green kitchen we recoiled in horror, but we fell in love with the idea when she showed us an example on Pinterest. As well as space for a large extending dining table that seats ten, the kitchen is practical with hard-wearing materials like the Silestone worktop. Plenty of storage was important and we’ve created extra cupboards under the seating, around the window, and in the island. The work took 12 weeks and cost £50,000.’
WHAT I’VE LEARNED “To be bold. It’s a cliché, but our thought processes evolved through the design stage and we got braver as we went along”
