Ideal Home travel
This former glass-blowing factory turned boutique hotel is a blissful place for a getaway
An idyllic retreat in North Norfolk
Big skies, lovely landscapes, sweeping sandy beaches… North Norfolk is a peachy spot for a break. And the new Harper hotel in Langham offers one more reason to go.
It’s a family affair, with elements nodding to founder Sam Cutmorescott’s grandfather (his middle name was Harper) alongside a sense of rich history. Light-filled interiors lined with natural materials – oak, iron, copper and, of course, glass – evoke the past, while the 32 rooms feature contemporary four-poster beds and colourful rugs on wood floors.
Named after Sam’s grandfather, Stanley’s dining room is all brick walls, exposed beams and scruffy oak tables. The menu offers seasonal East Anglian ingredients with a twist, from foraged black scallops with artichoke and mustard seed to Norfolk pig cheek and samphire.
The charms of The Harper are abundant but it’s worth exploring Langham itself. The village lies within the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the self-styled Harper Hikes offers favoured walks in the area.
