‘There are so many greens and some have very little in common. When combining different shades, an easy rule is to use either yellow-based or blue-based greens. Otherwise you’ll have a very uncomfortable colour scheme. The closer together the greens are, the better.’

ANNIE SLOAN, CHALK PAINT EXPERT

‘Green is amazingly versatile and works well in most rooms. Deep tones add warmth to a space, so in a north-facing living room bold shades will create a cosy, cocooning environment. Cooler shades of green work well in warmer rooms, such as a south-facing bedroom.’

DOMINIC MYLAND, MANAGING DIRECTOR, MYLANDS

‘Grey-greens should be your new go-to neutral. They seamlessly complement a currently grey scheme without too much upheaval.’

VICTORIA YARDLEY, MD OF VICTORY COLOURS.

‘Green is a useful ally if you are hoping to make small spaces appear a little larger. It is a receding colour with a short visual wavelength. Our mental association with green as a symbol of wide-open outside spaces means it works to make small rooms appear a little larger, so you can see why this visual trick works.’

MARIANNE SHILLINGFORD, CREATIVE DIRECTOR AT DULUX

'Grey-greens are a very forgiving base. They are luxurious and refined – but never cold. To provide a fabulous first impression, use in your hallway or porch.’

ANNIE SLOAN, CHALK PAINT EXPERT

‘For drama combine deep jewel tones with earthy darks, while for a lighter, fresher look, mix up more delicate tones of green, – or for the wow factor, try highlighting with a totally different colour, such as bright pink or acid yellow.’

ANDY GREENALL, HEAD OF DESIGN, LITTLE GREENE

‘Deeper greens, which are bold with blue undertones, fit really well with the fashion for lush, leafy botanicals. They look amazing teamed with gold and brass,’

VICTORIA YARDLEY, MD OF VICTORY COLOURS

“A is a great GRANITE GREEN base colour for well-lit rooms, but it's also for accents and FANTASTIC looks on ceilings DRAMATIC VICTORIA YARDLEY, MD OF VICTORY COLOURS
