How to tackle common stains

WHAT TO DO FIRST The sooner you tackle a stain, the more chance you have of getting rid of it. Blot any liquid away first with some kitchen towel. If the stain is dried on, dampen it using cold water and a sponge.

WHAT NEXT Mix a teaspoon of washing-up liquid in a small bowl of cold water and slowly dab the stain from the centre out to loosen and dilute it, blotting excess water with a dry towel. WHAT NOT TO DO Never use hot water and whatever you do, don’t rub the stain. This will actually set it, rather than remove it.
