How to introduce wallpaper into your bathing space

-

Wallpaper is often considered risky for use in bathrooms because of its aversion to moisture and humidity. However, with good ventilation, such as an up-to-date extractor, and the right tools, wallpaper is a safe bet.

Vinyl wallpapers with a splashproof, wipeable surface that’s resistant to moisture are one option. However, the choice is limited. If you do end up falling for a design that isn’t splashproof, simply avoid using it near wet zones, such as around the bath or washbasin, and only paper the top half of the walls, with either tiles or panelling protecting the lower half.

Use a strong wallpaper adhesive to ensure longevity and durability. And for extra protection, finish with a coat of clear matt decorator’s varnish, which will further protect the paper from moisture, and will seal without adding shine (unlike most regular varnishes).

“The triumph is the colour-popping wallpaper and my touches of playful neon. Every room should have some neon”

‘My houseplants from Patch Plants come with names. The fern is Bertie and the peacock plant is Julien. They add a bright burst of colour and texture.’

‘The boxing behind the basin and loo has created a ledge for toiletries. We relocated the boiler up here and disguised it with a cupboard.’

“We’re so pleased we went to the dark side with the colour palette. It was a small space, so why not make it warm and cocooning with deep, rich tones?”
