Ask for advice
■ When you compare mortgage rates, make sure you take into account fees and charges, not just the interest rate. Take a look at moneyfacts.co.uk.
■ It’s worth speaking to a mortgage broker first, as they often have access to better deals and they can also advise you on what is right for you. Find one at unbiased.co.uk or vouchedfor.co.uk.
■ If you’re worried about your repayments, there is always help available. Speak to debt charity Step Change (stepchange.org/how-we-help/mortgages. aspx) or Citizens Advice for help and advice (citizens advice.org.uk/debt-and-money/mortgage-problems).
