HOW TO... YOUR HEAT BATHROOM
Your bathroom is a place to unwind and relax – we show you stylish ways to make it feel warm and welcoming
Selecting taps, tiles, baths and basins are big choices when it comes to designing a bathroom, but don’t underestimate the impact that the right heating solution can have on your room.
QWhat type of heating should I go for? The three main types are underfloor heating, a radiator or a towel rail. Underfloor heating is great, especially if you’re short on space, while radiators and heated towel rails come in a variety of styles, shapes and colours.
QWhere do I start with underfloor heating? Underfloor heating adds everyday luxury to your bathroom. It’s also the eco-friendly option – while radiators tend to need water at 70-90ºc, a wet underfloor heating system can work at just 50ºc, so you’ll save on heating bills, too. Many underfloor heating systems allow you to heat individual rooms to their optimum temperature and are controlled via an app and even integrated into a smart home system for hassle-free automation.
QShould I go for a radiator or a towel rail? It’s down to personal choice. A rail is practical for warming towels and drying clothes. If you’re undecided, choose a design that combines the traditional style of a radiator with a handy rail to hang towels. Radiators are often in set positions in the bathroom, so aim to choose a new shape to work with the space you’ve got.
QModern or traditional? Radiators and towel rails come in both styles to suit your room, with vertical, horizontal or floorstanding designs and different finishes from stainless steel to contemporary black. The current trend for vertical column or panel radiators make an eye-catching style statement and are good if wall space is tight.
