Liam’s all set to take on the Great North Run for cancer

-

AN ENNISKILLEN man will tackle the Great North Run next weekend in aid of charity.

Liam Campbell will be running the Great North Run – a half-marathon distance (13.1 mile) – for Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI, the only charity in Northern Ireland dedicated to blood cancer research.

Liam has raised money for the charity over the past number of years. The charity is based at the Patrick G. Johnston Centre for

Cancer Research at Queen’s University Belfast.

He said: “They do a lot of research [into blood cancer] and money from the charity would be used to sponsor students during their PHD [studies] to fund more research.”

Moved

The Enniskillen man has raised money for the charity before, but felt moved to do so again with this run as two of his friends are currently receiving cancer treatment.

He said: “I have two friends receiving treatment; two ladies who are in their early forties. When you look at these things you want to try and do something.

“We often think of people who are much older getting sick [with cancer], but people are now sick in their forties [and younger].”
