DISGRACEFUL VANDALISM

A CORRESPONDENT informs me of the vandalism which is desecrating what remains of the church on Devenish Island, and is destroying some of the stones.

In some places portions of stones have been chipped off, and an omadhaun has written his name in tar across a wall. The Board of Works notice of warning has disappeared from the round tower.

The Rural Council are the custodians of the grounds, and it suggested that they should put an iron gate across the stairway to the belfry, and direct the local caretaker to prosecute any visitors who may injure the buildings.

I AM AWAY FROM ALL WORRIES

I AM away from home this week. I am not one of those public officials who are blessed with four weeks of holidays or even have the status of a workhouse wardsmaid who can have her three week’s leave.

I have but one long week, and so I go right away from the worries of my homeland, and if Lough Erne waters overflow their banks within this period of my annual vacation, or Mr. F. R. Browne removes the German guns from the Enniskillen Diamond, I will not hear of such happenings until my return.

CHEAP TRAVELLING OF NOTE AN EXCURSION ticket today to London third class and saloon cost £3 11s 0d.

In an old copy of the Reporter, I read an advertisement of a cheap trip to London from Enniskillen, second class rail and saloon on the boat available for 14 days, 25s return – less than the ordinary return fare, second class from Enniskillen to Belfast today ...

Such a trip would not cost any more than a weekend to

Bundoran, for London is one of the cheapest places in the United Kingdom to live.

GOOD POINTS DO NOT HELP ONE applicant for the secretaryship of the Fermanagh Regional Committee on Friday last, in giving a list of his good points, declared that he “did not drink nor smoke”. He did not even get a vote.
