Fintona secure Ulster North Mixed Foursomes title
PLUNKETT Mcnelis took his GUI Mixed Foursome Team team to Killymoon on Sunday to contest the Ulster North final of the GUI mixed foursomes – and what a success.
They triumphed over Cushendall GC at Killymoon in the tightest of finishes.
It was two-all and the other match was level after 18 holes. Jack Montgomery and Anna Mcnelis won their match on the 19th hole to win the Ulster North Final with Jack rolling in the winning putt to win the match.
The team now progresses to the All Ireland Quarter Final taking place in Athlone at the end of September.
Massive congratulations to all involved, as this is a first for our club and we are incredibly proud of them.
Well done to the whole team: Gareth Quinn and Kitty Loughran, Peter Henry and Catriona Donnelly, Plunkett and Geraldine Mcnelis, Aaron Shortt and Margaret Mullan, and Jack Montgomery and Anna Mcnelis, and those who played in previous rounds like Dara Mccullough and Teresa O‘leary.
Thank you to all the travelling support who attended in great numbers to cheer on our fellow members in this historic and prestigious victory.
The Fintona Horse Tram
On the domestic front we had the Fintona Horse Tram competition on Saturday and there was a big turn-out for the popular competition, sponsored by Anthony Mcdermott.
High scoring and countbacks were the order of the day to sort out the results.
Paul Mcnamee came out on top of the list with the best of three 45-point scores, pushing Joe Mccillen and Chris Martin further down the list.
Full results are: 1, Paul Mcnamee, 45pts; Section 0-9, Jared Brogan, 39pts; Section 10-19, Joe Mccillen, 45pts; Section 20+, Chris Martin, 45pts; Gross, Niall Teague, 33 gross pts; Seniors, Martin Johnson, 43pts; First 9, Niall Mullan, 24pts; Back 9, Justin Mccallan, 22pts.
Many thanks to our fellow member, Anthony, for continuing to support this long-running competition.
This is a big weekend for the club when we play for Joe Mccillen’s President’s Prize on Friday and Saturday.
We wish Joe every success and hope the weather is favourable for him.
