Hanna pleased as Tummery make it four out of four

Tummery Athletic 1 Dergview Reserves 0

BLAIN Campbell’s second half penalty was enough to seal the points for holders Tummery Athletic as they made it four wins out of four in the defence of their Mercer League title with a 1-0 victory over Dergview Reserves.

Tummery boss Ryan Hanna was pleased with his side’s display, and is delighted to be sitting on maximum points at this stage of the campaign.

“It was a tight game on Saturday. Dergview probably shaded things in the first half – we were decent in possession, but we didn’t threaten them.

“Then they had a great chance early in the second that went just past the post, and we just seemed to click into gear after that. I thought we were good, on the whole, on Saturday,” said Hanna.

“We are delighted with the start we have made, given the personnel we have lost and the signings we have made who are not available to us yet.

“The core group we have had got us through that and it is very pleasing,” he added, although he expects another close contest this week.

“We’re away to Beragh and that will be another tight one. They have had a couple of good results so far and Beragh away is never easy,” he said.

The first half was a well-contested affair but saw little in the way of clear-cut chances at either end, with Dergview possibly just shading things over the first 45 minutes.

The match sprung to life though in the second half, with Dergview starting the brighter, and they had a great chance to get their noses in front when Warner Ballantine was put through one on one against Tummery goalkeeper, Niall Mccrory, but he slipped his effort past the post, much to the relief of the home side.

That let-off seemed to get Tummery going and they began to build a sustained period of pressure which resulted in them beng awarded a penalty.

Aidy Mccaffrey fed the ball to Kevin Mcaleer and when Andy Sproule came across to challenge in the box, the ball popped up and hit him on the hand.

Campbell stepped up and converted the spotkick to put the Dromore outfit in front.

Mcaleer then had a good chance to double the home side’s advantage. Tummery broke down the right-hand side and the ball was fired across the goal, but Mcaleer shot over from close range.

Dergview did look dangerous on the counter but they failed to work Mccrory over the remainder of the contest as the home side held on for the win.
