Mccaffrey on the double as Kinawley pick up win
Kinawley 3-11 Derrygonnelly 1-05
REIGNING Senior Champions, Kinawley, showed their quality in Round Two of the Championship with a resounding victory over Derrygonnelly in belcoo last Saturday.
Derrygonnelly would have been expected by many to push the Borus all the way as they had done in last year’s decider, but Kinawley showed why they are champions with this 12-point victory.
It was an uphill struggle for the Harps as Gemma Mccaffrey found the net for Kinawley from the very first attack of the game.
And this would be followed by four unanswered points from Mccaffrey, Roisin O’reilly, Laura Doonan and Keelan Murphy to leave Derrygonnelly with a mountain of work to do to get back into the game.
Derrygonnelly would eventually get on the scoresheet through Brenda Bannon and Eimear Smyth points, to make it 1-04 to 0-02, but any sign of a comeback was shortlived.
Mccaffrey and O’reilly were on target again for Kinawley before each side found the back of the net before the half-time whistle.
For Derrygonnelly, Lynne Carroll found the net while
Mccaffrey hit her second goal of the contest to leave it 2-07 to 1-02 at the break.
Kinawley kept things ticking over in the second half and had further points from O’reilly, Danielle Maguire and a goal from Keyleigh Magee, while for the Harps, Smyth (2) and Carroll added points as it ended 3-11 to 1-05 in favour of Kinawley.
