CANON Maguire Park in Derrgonnelly hosted the Reserve ‘B’ Championship semi-final between Devenish and Aghadrumsee on Saturday evening.

Two points were the difference as Devenish fought their way into the final, where they will meet Irvinestown after their win against Belcoo in the other semi-final clash.

Devenish manager Gerard Gallagher was delighted to see his side advance on Saturday: “It’s a great result for us, it’s always nice to get to a Championship final no matter what grade it is.

“I have to give special mention to a couple of players including Jamie Flanagan upfront for us as well as Sean Burns who was rolling back the years at 46, I think. He was unreal for us and John O Flanagan in the middle put in a great shift.

“We only came back at the start of the Championship because we didn’t have the numbers to field beforehand,” he added.

Jamie Flanagan and John O’flanagan were a constant threat for the Garrison side, kicking the bulk of their scores in the first half.

Paul Boyle, Aiden Bannon, Enda Mccabe and Shea Boyle all kicked points for Aghadrumsee.

The teams went into halftime level at 0-06 to 0-06 apiece and it would continue to be a close affair in the second half as Richard Kearns and Daniel Faux added to Aghadrumsee’s tally.

Chris Keenan finished off a great attacking move by the Magpies to cause a scare for Devenish.

However, Conor Mcgowan responded while key men Jamie Flanagan and John O’flanagan continued their fine shooting performance to lead their side to victory.

Jamie Flanagan ended up with an impressive seven points to his name, with John O Flanagan scoring five points.

Aghadrumsee Reserve manager Tom Crudden said he was disappointed with the result:

“Overall, I thought we had an alright season with some good performances in the earlier league campaign and Championship games.

“It was good to see some of our younger players developing with more game time.

“However, we were disappointed to come out on the wrong side in the Championship semi-final on Saturday.”

The Reserve ‘B’ final will be played next Saturday at Brewster Park, with Gallagher adding:

“Going into the final we will throw it all at Irvinestown who will be well up for it after winning the Senior final, especially with a lot of the team playing juniors.

“We have had a good mix of young and older lads and come next weekend we will leave it all out on the field.”
