Quiet town streets as many stayed at home to watch the funeral

FAREWELL TO HER MAJESTY

-

THE centre of Enniskillen was eerily quiet on Monday morning at about 11am, when The Impartial Reporter stepped out into the normally bustling heart of the market town.

Many businesses were closed on the overcast morning, with 11am – marking the point when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’S funeral service was under way at Westminster Abbey – seeing the town largely empty, as many people stayed home to watch the historic proceedings unfold.

Save some light passing traffic that continued to trickle through the town, and a few people who were out and about or heading to the few businesses that were open, Enniskillen town centre was quiet for the morning and much of the day – a far cry from the famously friendly and welcoming spirit of the town that is the norm for locals and visitors alike.
