Left unimpressed by some reactions to the death of The Queen
Dear Sir,
In spite of the fact that some elements of the media would have us believe that we should be grateful for the Sinn Fein response to the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the accession of HM King Charles III, the reality is that at a local level they snubbed this significant event in the history of our nation.
The [Accession] Proclamation on Sunday past had no representation from Sinn Fein, and throughout the period of national mourning, the Union flag never flew from half mast from council buildings across Fermanagh and Omagh Council.
There are many in the Unionist community who believe Republicans have received far too much praise for meeting with our new King, as if this is some sort of concession.
Yes, they may no longer be murdering members of the Royal family in their 70s, but I, for one, don’t believe that was ever acceptable.
It is a shame and disgrace that this period was not marked officially, locally, and that the void was left to be filled by voluntary organisations like the Loyal Orders and band community who, I would remind the local Council, are ratepayers as well.
Yours faithfully,
Donald Crawford,
Fermanagh TUV branch Chairman
