Enniskillen & District: Suspicious attempt thwarted to kidnap Pandora’s skipper, Mrs. Laverton

-

THROUGH the promptness of a Special Constable, an attempt to kidnap Mrs. Laverton, the owner of the Pandora (the Lough Erne houseboat which, under the command of the lady herself, did such excellent work for the Constabulary during the Belleek-pettigo operations in June last), was frustrated on Friday evening.

Mrs. Laverton had recently noticed two men, unknown to her, following her about whenever she went out for walks in the neighbourhood of her house, near Enniskillen.

Houseboat

She had also noticed the same men moving about her houseboat, and had become suspicious of an attempt to do her harm.

On Friday evening, she was walking with her dog towards Lenaghan when she noticed in the middle of the road an empty motor car.

A motor lorry driven by a B Special Constable, passing at the time, drew up suddenly.

Movements

The driver had noticed from his high seat the suspicious movements of some men behind the hedge close by, and feeling that some attempt was afoot to do Mrs. Laverton injury, he alighted.

Mrs. Laverton, also suspicious, drew her revolver and challenged the driver, who, to explain matters, produced his Special Constabulary card.

He then brought Mrs. Laverton into Enniskillen in his car, where the matter was at once notified to the police.

Up till the present, police searches have been fruitless.
