Kinawley see off Harps to make it five in a row

-

Kinawley were pushed all the way by Derrygonnelly Harps as they made it five minor championship titles in a row.

It was a game of two halves in Tempo with the champions controlling matters in the opening 30 minutes while the Harps were much improved after the break.

Keelan and Kate Murphy and Orla Leonard were to the fore for the Borus in this period.

Leonard got Kinawley off to a strong start as her shot found the back of the net before Caitlin Magee replied with a point for the Harps.

Keelan Murphy would hit four out of the next five points as the winners took strong control of matters.

Bronagh Smyth would find the net for Derrygonnelly but Kinawley responded well and they hit a string of points over the remainder of the half while Keelan Murphy would find the net twice, once from play and another time from the penalty spot as Kinawley led 3-09 to 1-03 at the half time whistle.

The game looked all but over with Kinawley holding a dominant 12 point lead, But Derrygonnelly never gave up and fought their way back into the game.

Points from Smyth, Magee and Shauna Elliott all helping the cause. Defensively Ciara Leonard and Imogen Knight also leading the charge.

An Elliott goal brought the harps even closer to their opponents who only registered one point in the second half from the boot of Orla Murphy.

But it was to be enough for the Borus and even though Emily Cassidy added two late scores for Derrygonnelly time ran out for the chasing side and Kinawley celebrated another minor championship title.
