Fermanagh people expected to join major Dublin event on the possible future of Ireland

-

FERMANAGH people wishing to attend an event this Saturday discussing the potential future shape of Ireland are invited to act now to secure a bus place to head to the event in Dublin.

Strong interest is expected from all across the island of Ireland for ‘Together We Can’, organised by Ireland’s Future.

The event at the 3 Arena follows on from a number of public meetings across the island, as well as in London, New York and Philadelphia to encourage public debate about future constitutional arrangements, with Fermanagh people expected to join many others from across Northern Ireland at the thought-provoking gathering.

Bringing together voices from across politics and society, actors James Nesbitt and Colm Meaney will take to the stage along with entertainers Denise Chaila, Donal Lunny and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, with Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou Mcdonald, and others set to discuss the possible future shape of a new Ireland.

Ireland’s Future is chaired by Senator Frances Black, who said: “Momentum towards a referendum on Reunification has been building rapidly, particularly since Brexit, and its political and economic consequences have become clear for all of us on this island.

““This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to create something exciting and new – a society which is founded on equality, respect and fairness. This event is another step in supporting these important conversations.”

Among the speakers at the event will be Ben Collins, author and former Conservative Party member, who now advocates for a 32-county Republic.

His forthcoming book, ‘Irish Unity: Time to Prepare’, argues that the “beauty” of the Good Friday Agreement is that it enabled people to be Irish, British, European, or all three.

As well as keynote speeches from Mary Lou Mcdonald and Leo Varadkar, panel discussions on the day will also include participants from Fianna Fáil, Labour, the SDLP, the Green Party, People Before Profit, The Worker’s Party, Social Democrats, and Aontú.

A further panel will host a number of organisations including the Irish Farmers Association, IBEC, the National Women’s Council, and Conradh na Gaeilge.
