Complaints about doctors reported to the Guardians

-

AT ENNISKILLEN Board of Guardians on Tuesday, Mr. Joseph Geddis, presiding, it was reported that the officials were still under war rations. An official had 4lbs of bread a week, while an inmate had seven pounds.

Members thought that the officials were well off, and would see to their own interests, and the Board refused to interfere until a complaint was formally made to them.

HOLYWELL DISPENSARY DISTRICT

Dr. Hamilton had been granted leave on condition that he get an

to live within the district.

Dr. Maguire, who he suggested (a lady doctor residing in the Free State), had now got another appointment, and he feared that he would have difficulty in getting a substitute.

Clerk – I don’t see why Dr. Maguire (Florencecourt) cannot act for him.

It was mentioned that Dr. Maguire wanted holidays himself.

Mr. Carson – We will give the doctors leave when it suits us.

It was agreed to give no leave until a suitable substitute be found.

The Clerk reported, upon reading correspondence from the Ministry of Home Affairs, that none of the medical officers had for years furnished returns of the vaccination defaulters.

Mr. Edwards – I know of women bringing their children to the dispensary three weeks running, and no doctor to see them.

The Clerk said that with regard to another form, the doctors had been ordered to furnish returns, and none of them had sent them in.

Dr. Caraher and Dr. Maguire telegraphed that they had sent the forms to the Ministry, but the duplicate had not been furnished to the Guardians.

Dr. Mcsorley was the only doctor who furnished the forms.

With regards to Dr. Caraher doing duty in Enniskillen dispensary, the Home Officer sanctioned the arrangement for this occasion and added that, in future, “a more satisfactory arrangement must be made”.

Mr. Edwards said that no one could complain if the doctors attended at the dispensaries in the proper hours.

Some of them did not attend at the proper hours. It is 6pm in the evening when one dispensary is attended, he added.
