Busy day of girls youth action at Mullaghmeen

-

SUNDAY was a busy day at Mullaghmeen with three girls’ youth games followed by the Women’s game.

The U-14s had a tough start to their season against a very strong Virginia side. The team worked tirelessly eventually with slick hands through the back line releasing Cara Brock on the wing to score, Alice Seaney adding the conversion. Final score, 7-56 to Virginia. POTM was Natalie Turner.

The U-16 side started the season off right with a convincing win over Virginia.

For many of the girls it was their first time playing on a full-sized pitch, with many playing out of position.

The try scorers were Orlaith Maguire (2), Leah Irwin (2), Ellie Gordon and Sophie Moore. Leah Irwin added the extras with five conversions. Final score, 40-0 to Enniskillen; POTM was Orlaith Maguire (C) and Leah Irwin.

The U-18s team faced a depleted Virgina team who could only travel with eight players.

Enniskillen loaned them some players so that an 11-aside game could go ahead.

It was a hugely entertaining 65 minutes of fast-flowing attacking rugby, and whilst the Virginia girls did cross the Enniskillen try line six times, the try count for the home team went well over 20 tries scored.

The tries were shared around the entire team and all the girls gained very valuable experience and skills training as well as match fitness.

A fantastic start to the league. POTM was Eve Courtney.
