Local players making early progress at the Fermanagh Veterans’ Championsh­ips

IRVINESTOW­N Tennis Club are the hosts of the ever popular Tennis Ireland Fermanagh Open Veterans’ Championsh­ips which is sponsored by APC Mechanical Gas Engineers and supported by Fermanagh & Omagh District Council.

Players from all around the province, Dublin and Connacht will be competing for the coveted titles in age groups from 30s up to 60+.

Play began at the Bawnacre on Monday evening and goes onto Sunday Finals day.

Looking to try and bring honours to the county and showing good early form with first round wins are John Slowey and Paul Crilly in the 30s events while in 40s Irish internatio­nals Matthew Mcgann and

Donna Mcsorley had good early wins too.

Lastly, in the 50s Vanessa Mc Brien and Roger Howe should fair well in the Mixed Doubles following a comfortabl­e first round win.

Play continues all week with some top Irish internatio­nals making their way to the Irvinestow­n courts for the popular competitio­n.
