Wanderers host Blues

-

Linfield were the visitors to the Bawnacre on Sunday for a special friendly game against Irvinestown Wanderers U12s.

The Blues ran out 6-1 winners following three late goals but it was a great day for the club and the players, according to manager Stephen O’hagan.

“It was a good day for a small club like ours and it was a very good learning curve for the boys. Linfield would be a ‘red’ level side which is elite while we would be graded as ‘blue’ level which is just below that,” said O’hagan.

Wanderers were unlucky not to take an early lead through Roan Cassidy before Linfield scored two well worked goal and added a third before half time.

However, a fine strike by Nate Mcconnell made it 3-1 early in the second half and the Wanderers also had a couple of other chances to add to their tally.

Linfield though finished strongly, adding three late goals to seal the win.

George Beacom from the Bawnacre Centre presented Linfield 2012 team with a photograph from 1931 when Linfield played Manchester City and that will go on display at the Linfield Memorabilia Centre.

Irvinestown made joint man of the match awards to Caiden Mulligan and Ethan Maguire.

Both sides then retreated to Mahon’s Hotel for a meal.

“It was a very good day. Mark Stafford was there to meet the teams and we would like to thank him and also George Beacom who looked after us so well. And everybody enjoyed going back to Mahon’s where Joe put on a fantastic spread,” added O’hagan.
