Belcoo hold out Devenish to move into semis

Belcoo Ladies withstood a late Devenish flourish to seal their spot in the semi-final of the Junior Championsh­ip.

The O’rahilly’s held a four point lead at half time and were able to keep their noses in front throughout the second half thanks to the accuracy of Elaine Maguire.

Devenish had a goal chance their first attack when Aisling Maguire had a shot at goal but Riona Keaney did well to tip it on to the crossbar before the danger was cleared.

After three minutes, Sinead Barrett carried the ball down the right channel, played the ball inside to Sam Martin who fed Elaine Maguire and she tucked the ball into the corner.

Martin registered a neat point from play on 7mins after some patient build up before Ellen O’flanagan kicked a free on 10 minutes at the other end.

O’flanagan added a second free before a long range Hannah Murphy point reduced the deficit to one.

Maguire scored a free and Eve Barrett landed one from play for Belcoo after good work by Michelle Cullen.

O’flanagan was on target with a third pointed free but just before the interval Barrett kicked a wonderful point while Maguire slotted a close range free with Belcoo leading 1-05 to 0-04 at half time.

There was only three scores in the third quarter, all of which were frees from Elaine Maguire (2) for Belcoo while O’flanagan responded for

Devenish.

Two more frees from Elaine Maguire had Belcoo 1-9 to 0-5 ahead with a three minutes remaining.

O’flanagan hit her fifth free before Maguire thumped in a goal in the 60th minute.

The last score of the game came from O’flanagan who drilled over a point in the 63rd minute and with that the game ended, Belcoo holding out as two point victors.

In the other quarter final ties, Lisnaskea proved too strong for Maguiresbr­idge with the Emmetts running out 9-24 to 1-02 winners while Ederney also eased through with a 1-12 to 1-01 victory over Irvinestow­n.

And Knockninny got the better of Belnaleck as they came away with a 5-08 to 1-09 win.
