Tempo maintain winning run

Tempo 3-06 Lisnaskea 0-08

-

TEMPO continued their 100 per cent record with a sevenpoint victory over Lisnaskea in Kinawley on Sunday.

Both teams’ fate was already sealed going into the game, with Lisnaskea playing in the Intermediate relegation play-off game, while Tempo will advance to the Intermediate semi-finals.

Lisnaskea took a two-point lead five minutes into the contest as Sean Keenan’s free kick was followed by a Justy Mcdade point.

However, Tempo struck back with a goal as Aidan Breen finished with a low shot to drive Tempo in front. Breen went on to get the next two scores with a free kick and a long-range effort to stamp his authority on proceedings.

Keenan and Oisin Murphy traded scores to leave the score line at 1-03 to 0-03 going into half time.

It didn’t take long for Breen to add his third point for the game before Lisnaskea scored three unanswered points via Keenan, Mcdade and Mark Smith to make it a one-point game.

Niall Fee added a point for Tempo, and Murphy would extend the Maguires’ lead even further as he finished off an attacking move to score his side’s second goal.

Breen almost found his second and Tempo’s third goal a moment later, but his shot cannoned off the crossbar.

PJ Rogers and Mcdade traded scores with just over ten minutes of the match to go. Keenan landed the Emmetts’ eighth point with another free kick after Mcdade was taken down following a surging run from midfield, but Stephen Fee’s late goal rounded off the win for Tempo, who joined Devenish in winning all three of their Intermediate group games.

Tempo’s run of wins includes newly promoted Irvinestown, Division One team St. Pat’s and now Lisnaskea, who they denied promotion from Division Two on the final day after late points sealed a draw at home.

They will be waiting to hear their semi-final opponents with quarter-final fixtures scheduled for this weekend.

Despite their impressive league campaign, Lisnaskea will face Maguiresbridge in the Intermediate relegation play-off match in Newtownbutler on Sunday.

Emmetts’ Manager John Reihill is not taking anything for granted.

“We are expecting a very tough, competitive game. Neither team picked up any wins in the Championship and so confidence is a bit low.

“The league game a few weeks ago was very close, which we were just able to win in the end. It’s a local derby, which neither team will want to lose.”
