ROSLEA progressed to the quarter finals of the Fermanagh SFC and in doing so consigned Ederney to a relegation play-off this weekend against Teemore.

The two sides came into Saturday’s game knowing that it was real knockout football as the winner would stay alive in the championship, but the losers’ hopes would be over, and instead they would face the dreaded relegation play-off.

The first half was an evenly contested affair with little dividing the sides, but Roslea took control after the break with Seamus Quigley landing seven points over the course of the 30 minutes to help the Shamrocks into a 0-12 to 0-07 advantage.

Quigley showed great accuracy throughout the contest and he landed the first two points of the game from frees, although Ederney responded with points from Conor Mcgee and Paul Mccusker to make it 0-02 apiece after five minutes.

Quigley notched his third point of the game following a great ball in by Niall Beggan to edge Roslea back in front, although Ederney answered with points from Pól Mckervey and a second of the tie from Mcgee to make it 0-04 to 0-03 in their favour.

However, Sean Quigley rounded off the scoring in the first half when he got on the end of a free that dropped short to punch over to leave it 0-0 to 0-04 at the interval.

Slotted over

Roslea though started the second half well as Seamus Quigley slotted over a point from play, and another from free to put the Shamrocks two points up, but Paul Mccusker cut the gap to one with a point for Ederney.

Another Quigley free though restored the two-point advantage before Micheal Flanagan popped up with a point for Roslea to make it 0-08 to 0-05.

Mcgee knocked over his third point of the game to keep Ederney in touch, but Roslea were in the ascendancy and a great catch from Seamus Quigley resulted in him converting a mark, and he then followed up with a point from play to stretch the gap out to four points.

Jacob Britton hit back with a point for Ederney, but two more points from Quigley, a second mark and a point from play pushed the gap out to five points, 0-12 to 0-07.

Ederney did keep battling and Mckervey and Paul Mccusker knocked over late scores, but they could not get in for the goal they needed as Roslea finished up threepoint victors to send them through to a quarter final encounter against Erne Gaels in Belleek this Sunday.

KINAWLEY booked their place in the semi-finals of the Fermanagh SFC with a two-point win over Enniskillen on Saturday in Tempo.

The Brian Borus’ greater intensity and desire was telling over the course of the game and the two-point margin probably flattered Enniskillen, if anything.

The Gaels had started the brighter as they landed the opening two scores but Kinawley soon took over as they dominated breaking ball, and with Lorcan Mckenna in fine form they opened up a fourpoint lead by the midway stage of the half.

Enniskillen did respond to this as they closed the gap back to two points by the interval, and then three points in a row on the resumption put the Gaels ahead early in the second half.

However, Kinawley went on to regain the upper hand with Shaun Doherty a calming influence on them following his introduction and they went on to get their noses ahead and stayed there through to the finish.

Kinawley selector Barry Maguire was pleased with their result.

“We’re delighted to get the win. It took us a while to get going but once we settled we had a real good spell and could have had a couple of goals too.

“Enniskillen came back into it either side of half time and it was nip and tuck after that, but we’re happy to have come out on top,” said Maguire, who is pleased to now have that extra week before they next play.

“Having that week to help recovery is great and we will now just wait and see who we will face in the semi-final.”

Enniskillen made a positive opening to the contest with Eoin Beacom blasting over the first score of the game before John Reihill clipped over a free after a foul on Conor Mcshea.

Kinawley though were fired up for the contest and Ruairi Corrigan – who had a great battle with James Ferguson – was denied by a save by Cian Newman in the Enniskillen goal before Mckenna drilled over their first point from the subsequent ’45.

Kinawley were awarded a free from a similar spot soon after and Mckenna fired it over before Eoghan Mcmanus edged them ahead with a good effort from play.

Attacking threat

Conor Love, who was Enniskillen’s main attacking threat, levelled matters with a point from a tight angle, but Kinawley had started to take control, and Ruairi Corrigan slipped Mckenna in on goal but he shot wide although Corrigan did clip over after Kinawley had turned over possession to make it 0-04 to 0-03 with 13 minutes on the clock.

It was all Kinawley at this stage and Mckenna powered over a great score from play before landing another longrange free and, with Tomás Corrigan also converting a free, it moved the Brian Borus into a 0-07 to 0-03 lead.

Enniskillen though finally began to turn the tide as they registered three of the last four points of the half to go in only two down at the interval.

Love tossed over a free before Mckenna replied after Kinawley had again forced a turnover, but two more Love points, one from play and one from a free, left it 0-08 to 0-06 at the break.

And the Gaels followed it up with another three points on the bounce at the start of the second half.

Love landed a lovely point from the right; Calum Jones’ long ball was allowed to bounce and went over the bar, and John Reihill then fisted over to make it 0-09 to 0-08.

At the other end, Kinawley were again threatening a goal as Eoghan Mcmanus saw his shot come off the inside of the post and run across the line before being cleared.

The introduction of Doherty helped to settle Kinawley back into the game and both he and Tomás Corrigan fisted points to nudge the Brian Borus back in front by the 41st minute.

Love levelled things from a free for Enniskillen, but Kinawley were again beginning to dictate possession and Tomás Corrigan knocked over two frees to make it 0-12 to 0-10 with ten minutes to play.

The Gaels did have a goal chance of their own but Ruairi Corrigan got back to make a challenge on John Reihill, whose effort went wide.

Jones did fire over though for Enniskillen to make it a one-point game with eight minutes left to play, but Mckenna had the final say as he popped over his sixth point in added-on time to leave it 0-13 to 0-11 at the finish.
