‘RUN for Oisín’, one of the biggest fun runs in the district which involves a 5k and 10k walk, run or jog will take place at 1pm on Sunday, October 16 in Belcoo.

Oisín’s mum Sharon Mcgrath commented: “We’re so pleased that ‘Run For Oisín’ is back for the first time post pandemic and on what would have been Oisín’s 21st birthday year.

“The family and indeed all involved in the Foundation are forever grateful for the support we have received and could never have anticipated the response in previous years.

“It is a huge community event with over 1,000 participants and we look forward to welcoming everyone back again whether you are a recreational walker or seasoned athlete. Funds raised from the run will support the work of our Foundation along with our partner charity The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity.”

The Oisín Mcgrath Foundation was formed in memory of 13-year-old Oisín Mcgrath from Belcoo, who lost his life tragically in February 2015. The Foundation is inspired by Oisín’s life and formed both to keep his spirit alive and to inspire others through his memory.

Sharon added: “The Foundation brings opportunity to others alongside celebrating Oisín’s life and his love and commitment to sport. We are pleased to be able to make grant awards and it is our hope that we can support even more young people and groups, assisting them in their sports development in memory of Oisín”.

Administered by the Fermanagh Trust, the Oisín Mcgrath Foundation provides financial support to young people who demonstrate exceptional commitment and/ or ability to the world of sport but may be held back by their financial situation from pursing their goals.

Recent recipients of bursary awards from the Foundation include Naoise Mcmanus, a 12-year-old squad gymnast, 16-year-old golfer Rory Browne, Farrah Mccloskey who is part of the Ulster U18 Rugby Team and Charlotte Mcguigan, newly qualified referee and competitor for Erne wrestling. These young people received support towards travel and equipment costs helping with their training and competitions.

The Foundation is currently open for application and inviting local individuals / clubs to apply for sports development bursaries.

The closing date for this year’s funding awards is Friday, October 28. For more information or to download an application form visit www. fermanaghtrust.org / E: gemma@ fermanaghtrust.org / Tel: 028 66 320 210.
