Tough day for F&W teams in Junior Cup
It was to be a tough day at the office for the remaining Fermanagh and Western sides who played in the Irish Junior Cup last Saturday.
Enniskillen Galaxy had the daunting task of trying to overcome last year’s winners Coalisland Athletic.
And it was to be a task too far for Daniel Mcintyre’s side as they went down 3-0 to make their exit from this year’s competition.
They performed admirably, however, and with the score at 1-0 with 70 minutes played, Coalisland hit two goals in the closing stages to seal the victory.
Islandmagee travelled down to the Lakeland Forum to take on Enniskillen Rovers and they came away with a 6-0 victory.
Having led 1-0 at the break Islandmagee kicked on in the second half.
Lisnarick fell at the first hurdle against Belfast side, Albion Star, 3-1.
Having fallen behind, Lisnarick’s Barry Goodwin levelled the game with a tidy finish to the bottom corner.
But it was as good as it got with Albion Star hitting two more goals in the second half.
Fivemiletown United II also crashed out following a 2-0 loss to St. Mary’s Reserves at the King George’s Playing Fields.
Omagh Hospitals progressed to the second round and that was courtesy of penalties against Belfast Celtic YM.
Having finished 1-1, the Hospitals kept their nerve in the shootout to win 4-3.
