Strong second half seals semi spot

Enniskillen 0-14 Belnaleck 1-06

-

An excellent second half display saw Enniskillen see off Belnaleck to secure their place in the last four of the Fermanagh SFC at a wet Brewster Park last Friday night.

Belnaleck had appeared to be gaining control of matters in the first half as a Bryan Owens goal helped them into a four point half time advantage.

However, Enniskillen bossed the exchanges in the second half, outscoring Belnaleck 11 points to two to take their place in the semi-final of the competition.

The Gaels had started brightly as they carved out two goal chances in the opening six minutes but Johnny Cassidy pushed his effort wide while Aaron Nolan’s shot was saved by Ryan Mcnulty in the Belnaleck goal.

It was Belnaleck who would open the scoring though through a Garvan Quigley long range free afer nine minutes although Enniskillen answered with a Conor Love point.

It looked though as if they would rue those missed goal chances as Bryan Owens palmed to the net in the 13th minute. A long ball from Glenn Treacy was caught by Ciaran Mcbrien who fed the ball across the goal for the in-rushing Owens to palm home.

A James Speight point soon after then pushed the gap out to four although Cassidy, whose forward breaks caused problems for Belnaleck, got through again and this time his effort was pushed over the bar by Mcnulty.

Belnaleck though remained on top and Kane Connor clipped over after a good run while Owens pointed after Belnaleck had turned over possession to make it 1-04 to 0-02.

The Gaels though had the final say of the half as Callum Jones rattled over a good point to leave four in it at the interval.

And Jones was to set the tone for the home side after the break as as he rifled over a fine point on the resumption and although Quigley answered for Belnaleck, the momentum was starting to swing Enniskillen’s way.

Mcdermott hooked over a point and this was followed by yet anbother goal chance for Enniskillen but John Reihill was denied by Mcnulty but Love knocked over from the rebound to leave two between the sides.

Enniskillen, with Brandon Horan a growing influence, pinned Blenaleck in and Reihill converted a free before Horan levelled.

And a 49th minute Callum Jones strike, that clipped the crossbar on the way over, put Enniskillen ahead for the first time in the game.

Belnaleck hit back to level as Darragh Mcgurn rifled over but Enniskillen continued to dictate the play.

A Reihill free edged them back ahead and Ross Bogue made it a two point game with six minutes to play.

And there was no way back for Belnaleck as Love wrapped things up with three points from play in the closing stages as Enniskillen finished up deserving 0-14 to 1-06 victors.
