Joanne edges out Rita to win on countback

-

THE final 18 hole competition on the ladies calendar was an 18 hole stableford competition played on Tuesday, September 27.

There was tight competition for the top spot with four ladies returning a score of 36 points. The winner was Joanne Daly (HC 21) on countback from Rita Mckechnie.

Rita Mckechnie has certainly hit her purple patch as she is featuring in the prize arena on a regular basis.

Rita nabbed second spot, again, on countback from Sandra Mcelroy and fourth spot, also on countback, went to Susan May. Susan got some consolation as she bagged the front nine with 20 points.

Sandra was pipped at the post by Dympna Slowey who took the back 9 also with 20 points. The winner of the nine hole stableford competition was Sally Redman.

The men’s midweek competition on Wednesday, September 28 was won by Ken Bownes with 39 points, followed in second place by Bob Carroll with 37 points. Third place went to Stephen Gault with 35 points.

The LEGS will continue in a less formal capacity on Thursday mornings, weather permitting.

On the weekend of October 1, the competition was a ‘Texas’ scramble.

The popular WAGS competition (Winter Alliance Golf Society) has been revived.

The WAGS is a friendly monthly golf competition, for both ladies and gentlemen members. It will be held on the third Sunday of each month, and will run for the next six months, weather dependent. This event has always injected great life into the club so come along and join us on the first outing Sunday, October 23.

18 hole qualifying competitions will continue for the men until Saturday, October 29.

The men’s annual autumn/ winter league will commence in November with details to follow.

The ladies Winter Alliance will resume on Saturday, November 5 and will run, weather permitting, on the first Saturday of each month through to March. Our match secretary Patricia is busy in the background formulating a winter league for the ladies. Details will be posted shortly.

Congratulations to Gary Baxter’s Phair Cup team who were the winners in the men’s T&F series.

The ladies T&F seniors team played their last round of the series on Monday, October 3.

The last leg was played in Castle Hume.

Enniskillen ladies made a valiant attempt to retain the title but had to settle for runner up position, this year, to a stronger Strabane team.

On Saturday, October 8 the club held a stableford sweep competition. The winners were: 1st John Kempton with 41 points, 2nd Dermott Love with 40 points, 3rd Stephen Gault with 39 points and 4th place went to Garry Smyth also with 39 points.

The sweep was run in conjunction with an Enniskillen V Castle Hume competition organised by the two club vice captains, Vincie Corrigan and Billy Reynolds. The course had been punished by the torrential rain of the previous night but held out well to permit everyone to enjoy their round. This was the first year that the ladies had been invited to play in this competition. The cumulative scores were totted up and as usual competition was close. Sad to say for our Enniskillen players we were pipped at the post by one single point. We look forward to the return match next year on Castle Hume soil.
